2024-2214 RESOLUTION NO. 2024-2214
A resolution recognizing Council President Paul Benson for his loyal and conscientious service to the
City of Janesville as a City Councilmember.
WHEREAS, Paul Benson served the City of Janesville from 2019 to 2024 as a member of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Benson served as Council Vice President in 2021 and Council President in 2022, 2023, and
2024; and
WHEREAS, during his term in office, Mr. Benson served as a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Committee, the Sustainable Janesville Committee, the Indoor Sports Complex Steering Committee, the Library
Board of Trustees, Oak Hill Cemetery Advisory Committee, Alcohol License Advisory Committee, Downtown
Janesville, Inc., and the Woodman's Sports and Convention Center Executive Team; and
WHEREAS, during his term, the City Council accomplished many achievements, of which Mr. Benson
recognizes several significant accomplishments, including the development of affordable, market-rate, and high-
end housing stock; reducing the City's debt burden by transitioning to an increased level of cash financing for
infrastructure initiatives; the development and construction of the Woodman's Sports and Convention Center,
securing City funding for the Children's Museum of Rock County, and the recruitment and hiring of City Manager
Kevin Lahner; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Benson's intelligence, thoughtfulness, and compassion for the community and its citizens
characterized his tenure in office throughout, which is evidenced by his work to make the City of Janesville the
Community of Choice; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Benson performed the duties of a member of the City Council with an exemplary level of
dedication, honesty, and integrity;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Janesville presents this
commendation to Paul Benson in sincere appreciation for his loyal and conscientious service to the City of
Janesville.
