2023-2164 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2164 A resolution recognizing and supporting the efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics during Fire Prevention Week, October 8 — 14, 2023. WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living and visiting in Janesville; and WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern, fire deaths in the United States have increased by more than 20 percent, and dollar loss has increased by more than 90 percent in the past decade; and WHEREAS, Cooking is the leading cause of home fires with nearly 49 percent of all home fires involving cooking equipment; and WHEREAS, City of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of fires and fire injuries through prevention and public education; and WHEREAS, the 2023 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention," effectively reinforces the critical importance of Staying in the kitchen while cooking; and WHEREAS, this October represents the 101th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week, the nation's longest-running public health observance on record. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that October 8 - 14, 2023 is to be observed as Fire Prevention Week; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that all Janesville citizens are called upon to learn the sounds of fire safety and to support the public safety efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics who work to protect their fellow citizens and community.
