An Ordinance amending the Fee Schedule for Real Estate Search Fees
Whereas, the City of Janesville provides a service known as a Real Estate Search
(RES) to closing companies, landlords and individuals seeking to find the total
outstanding balance to a property; and
Whereas, Clerk-Treasurer staff provides upwards of 1,600 of these RES annually and
changes with the housing market at a cost of$55 each; and
Whereas these requests come in closer to the 15th and last day of the month and often
overlap with competing workload deadlines of staff and can ensue staff to work longer
days or shuffle priorities to accommodate these requests; and
Whereas it is best when these requests come in with ample time to complete without
pressure, but many come in seeking a 24- or 48-hour turnaround the Clerk-Treasurer is
seeking a change to the fee schedule to charge more for requests that come in with a
requested turnaround of 48 hours or less; and
Whereas, pursuant to Sec. 12-29 of the Code of General Ordinance, The fee for each
license or permit provided anywhere in this Code shall be an amount as established
by the City Council from time to time;
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS: The fee to request a Real Estate Search that is not considered a rush (less
than 48-hour turnaround) will be charged $50. The fee for a rush Real Estate Search
(less than 48-hour turnaround) will be charged $75.
Now therefore be it resolved that the City Council, acting as the governing body
hereby amends and adopts the change to the Fee Schedule authorizing the above fees;
and
Be it further resolved that collection of such fees shall begin when this Ordinance is
enacted and shall follow the requirements and duties set forth in this Ordinance.
