2023-2151 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2151
A resolution declaring official intent to authorize the City Manager to apply to the Public Service
Commission for a Simplified Rate Case review.
WHEREAS,City of Janesville,Rock County,Wisconsin has not had its water rates reviewed by
the Public Service Commission(PSC) since November of 2019, and
WHEREAS,the cost to operate the Water Utility has gone up over the last 3.5 years; and
WHEREAS, the city is now eligible to apply for a Simplified Rate Case (SRC) due to the fact
that our Rate of Return is below that allowed by the PSC. Our budgeted rate of return for 2023 was
4.10%. The PSC set the rate of return at 6.50%; and
WHEREAS, the PSC has also set the rate increase at 8% to reach a 6.50% rate of return. This
increase is set by State Statute.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the Municipality,that:
The City Manager be authorized to submit a Simplified Rate Case to the Public Service
Commission for review.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall be effective upon its adoption and approval
