2023-2128 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2128 A resolution recognizing May 2023 as "Bike Month," May 19, 2023 as "Bike to Work Day," and June 3 to 10, 2023 as Bike Week in the City of Janesville WHEREAS, May has been recognized as National Bike Month since 1956; and WHEREAS, May 19, 2023, is recognized as National Bike to Work Day; and WHEREAS, June 3 to 10, 2023 is recognized as Wisconsin Bike Week; and WHEREAS, bicycling to work, school, and other everyday destinations is an effective means to improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and conserve energy; and WHEREAS, creating bicycle-friendly communities has been shown to improve citizens' health, well-being, and quality of life, boost community spirit, improve traffic safety, and contribute to the local economy; and WHEREAS, Janesville continues to plan for and advance the development of a comprehensive bike network to allow citizens to ride their bikes throughout Janesville and the region and to promote personal and societal benefits achieved from bicycling, and WHEREAS, ease, comfort, and frequency of bicycle and pedestrian activity are key components of Janesville's livability and quality of life; and WHEREAS, the Rock Trail Coalition, Ice Age Trail Alliance of Rock County, Janesville Velo Club, Velocity Multisport, Michael's Cycles, Downtown Janesville Inc., Forward Janesville, Janesville Recreation Department, Rock County Public Health Department, UW-Extension of Rock County, and others will be joining the League of American Bicyclists and Wisconsin Bike Fed in promoting bicycling during the months of May and June 2023. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Janesville does hereby affirm and proclaim May 2023, as "Bike Month" in Janesville, May 19, 2023, as "Bike to Work Day," and June 3 to 10, 2023 as "Wisconsin Bike Week."
