2023-2118 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2118
A resolution proclaiming April 30 to May 6, 2023 as "Small Business Week" in the
City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, small businesses across America have shaped and embodied the
entrepreneurial spirit and driven our economy forward for generations; and
WHEREAS, the pandemic devastated America's small business community, and
hundreds of thousands of small businesses closed, main streets were shuttered, and
millions more Americans were out of work through no fault of their own; and
WHEREAS, even with the creativity and resilience of small business owners and workers,
COVID-19 took an incalculable toll on so many lives and livelihoods; and
WHEREAS, the American Rescue Plan and other emergency relief programs distributed
hundreds of billions of dollars to millions of small businesses to provide substantial,
immediate relief to the nation's small businesses, giving them the tools, resources, and
support they needed to reopen, rehire, and rebuild, and also removed historic barriers to
level the playing field for businesses across rural and urban America, especially
businesses owned by veterans, women, and people of color; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville and its Economic Development Office remain dedicated
to unlocking new opportunities for local small businesses to grow and compete through
initiatives like the Janesville Innovation Center, identifying business grants, and
continuing collaboration with partnerships.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of
Janesville recognizes April 30 to May 6 as "Small Business Week" to recognize the
contributions of small businesses to Janesville's economy, continue supporting them, and
honor the occasion with programs and activities that highlight these important businesses.
