2023-2112 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2112
A resolution recognizing Douglas Marklein for his loyal and conscientious service to the
City of Janesville as a City Councilmember.
WHEREAS, Douglas Marklein served the City of Janesville from 2013 to 2023 as a member of the City
Council, including as Council President in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2021; and
WHEREAS, during his term in office, Mr. Marklein served as a member of the Community Development
Authority, Plan Commission, Downtown Development Alliance, Audit Committee, Janesville
Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board, Sustainable Janesville Committee, and the
Woodman's Sports and Convention Center Design Team; and
WHEREAS, during his term, the City Council accomplished many achievements, including the
development of affordable, market-rate, and high-end housing stock and expansion of single-family
homes; substantial investment in the downtown, including the completion of the West Milwaukee Street
reconstruction project, Festival Street and the Town Square, the Fitness Court, and renovation of the
Janesville Transit Transfer Center; the increase in public safety through the replacement of private side
lead laterals throughout the City of Janesville and the purchase and staffing of a fifth ambulance for
Fire Station #3; and navigating the concerns and uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Marklein's knowledge, dedication, and concern for the community and its citizens
characterized his tenure in office throughout and is evidenced by his work to make the City of Janesville
the Community of Choice; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Marklein performed the duties of a member of the City Council with an exemplary level
of dedication, honesty, and integrity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Janesville presents this
commendation to Douglas Marklein in sincere appreciation for his loyal and conscientious service to
the City of Janesville.
