2023-2105 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2105
A resolution congratulating former Council President Dale Henning on his 90th
birthday and thanking him for his many contributions to the City.
WHEREAS, Dale Henning was born in the City of Janesville on April 20, 1933, and lived
in Janesville for most of his life, including graduating from Janesville High School and
raising his children Deborah, Mark, and Karen in Janesville with his wife, Doris; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning served the City of Janesville from 1964 to 1970 as a member
of the City Council and as Council President in 1967; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, the Council accomplished many essential infrastructure
achievements, including the building of a new library and sewage treatment facility,
renovations of Memorial Bridge, purchasing land for Rockport Park, and contributing to
the construction of Parker High School, several grade schools, a middle school, and
Janesville School's Outdoor Lab; and
WHEREAS, one of the Council's most significant achievements during this time was the
construction of a new municipal building in 1968, which is still in use today and known as
City Hall; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning is an avid volunteer for the City, state, and nation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Henning served in the Navy and participated in civic organizations,
including the Janesville Bicentennial Committee, Oak Hill Cemetery, Friends of Oakhill
Church, Janesville Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Elks Lodge 254, the American
Legion, Rotary Botanical Gardens, Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Mercy Hospital,
Meals on Wheels, and United Way of Wisconsin, and remains active in many of these
groups today; and
WHEREAS, on April 20, 2023, Mr. Henning will celebrate his 90th birthday.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of
Janesville congratulates former Council President Dale Henning as he celebrates his 90th
birthday; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Janesville
recognizes the significant, varied, and enduring ways Mr. Henning has contributed, and
continues to contribute, to the City of Janesville.
