2023-2091 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-2091 A resolution recognizing Tony Farrell, Sr. for his volunteer service to the City of Janesville WHEREAS, volunteers provide an invaluable contribution to the Janesville community by lending their time, talent, and support to improve the City in countless ways; and WHEREAS, community volunteer Tony Farrell, Sr., will retire from his role as the Volunteer Executive Director of the Rock County Suicide Prevention Network on March 1, 2023, and WHEREAS, Mr. Farrell has volunteered for over 56 years in the City of Janesville and its surrounding communities, following his service in the Wisconsin National Guard, where his assignments included working with soldiers emotionally struggling following their return from Vietnam, and WHEREAS, Mr. Farrell's volunteer work, notably promoting suicide prevention, began as a mentor in Janesville schools in 1967 and has been expanded throughout the area over several decades, and WHEREAS, before the existence of a national suicide lifeline, Mr. Farrell spent decades connecting residents in suicidal crisis directly to life-saving resources, continuing his work with at-risk community members even following the presence of a national lifeline, and WHEREAS, in his role as Volunteer Executive Director of the Rock County Suicide Prevention Network, a non-paid position, Mr. Farrell has provided relevant presentations seven days a week at no charge or public cost, and WHEREAS, the volunteerism of Mr. Farrell has brought forth critical knowledge about averting the tragedy of suicide, helping presentation attendees learn about suicide risk signs and available resources, and WHEREAS, his message of encouraging residents to reach out to family members and friends who had lost a loved one to suicide helped community members move forward with their healing process, and WHEREAS, in addition to his critical work in suicide prevention, Mr. Farrell's decades of community service include time spent as an usher at Janesville City Council meetings, welcoming and inviting citizens to be a part of the democratic process. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the people of the City of Janesville, through the City Council, do express their grateful appreciation to Tony Farrell, Sr. for his over 56 years of volunteer service to the City of Janesville.
