2022-2035 RESOLUTION NO. 2022 - 2035 A resolution honoring K-9 Fred for his service and dedication to the City of Janesville. WHEREAS, K-9 Fred, a German Shephard/Belgian Malinois canine officer, entered into service with the Janesville Police Department in November 2015 and was a valued member of the JPD team and family; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred was partnered with his handler Sergeant Drew Severson in October 2015, and they trained together for six weeks at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred assisted with criminal apprehensions and drug seizures, making Janesville a safer place for all; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred's favorite activity was anything involving chasing a criminal; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred and Sergeant Severson performed numerous demonstrations and met and inspired residents during events such as National Night Out, community gatherings, and even graduation ceremonies; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred and Sergeant Severson won the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association Narcotics Detection Team Award in 2016, having competed against approximately 120 other K-9 teams from Wisconsin; and WHEREAS, K-9 Fred valiantly fought melanoma cancer for three years, remaining dedicated to the community during that time, and lost that battle on July 19, 2022; and WHEREAS, it is desired that such commendable service to the City of Janesville be properly recognized. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the people of the City of Janesville, through the City Council, do express their grateful appreciation of K-9 Fred for his service and dedication to the City of Janesville and mourn his loss.
