PURPOSE
To establish procedures for reimbursing Councilmembers for professional development
expenses related to their service.
STATEMENT OF POLICY
Councilmembers may receive reimbursement for professional development expenses
incurred related to his/her elected duties and responsibilities, the aggregate of which for all
Councilmembers for each calendar year shall not exceed the annual budgeted amount(s).
The annual budgeted amount(s) shall be allocated on a per Councilmember basis unless
otherwise agreed upon during the adoption of the annual budget.
PROCEDURES
1. Professional development expenses:
a. To be reimbursed for professional development expenses related to their
service, Councilmembers shall complete the Itemized Training/Conference
Expense Form and submit copies of all receipts to the City Manager’s Office.
b. Councilmembers in the last calendar year of their term may not submit
professional development expenses for reimbursement unless the
Councilmember is elected to an additional term. Upon election, the
Councilmember may submit for reimbursement professional development
expenses incurred prior to the election but within the current calendar year.
c. Councilmembers who accept professional development reimbursement funds
are expected to provide verbal and/or written feedback on their experience to
the City Council and/or staff.
d. Upon receipt of all appropriate documentation, the City Manager’s Office will
process the reimbursement request.
e. All reimbursements shall be received via direct deposit.
