2020-1815 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-1815
A resolution recognizing and supporting the efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics
during Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, 2020
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living and visiting
Janesville; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern, and fire deaths in the United States have increased by more
than 20% and dollar loss has increased by more than 90% in the past decade; and
WHEREAS, practicing fire safety in the kitchen can prevent injuries and deaths caused by home fires; and
WHEREAS, City of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of fire and
fire injuries through prevention and public education; and
WHEREAS, the 2020 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen," effectively serves to
remind us that cooking only when alert, keeping a safe area three feet around the stovetop, and having a lid and
fire extinguisher ready are important ways to avoid cooking-related injuries and fires.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that October 4-
10, 2020 is to be observed as Fire Prevention Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that all Janesville citizens are called upon to
practice fire safety in the kitchen and to support the public safety efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics
who work to protect their fellow citizens and community.
