2020-1758 RESOLUTION NO. 2020-1758
A resolution proclaiming April 2020 as "Fair Housing Month" in the City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, individuals in the City of Janesville have the right to choose where to live without discrimination
based on race, color, sex/gender, national origin, religion, disability/handicap, family/familial status, sexual
orientation, marital status, ancestry, lawful source of income, age, status as a victim of domestic abuse, sexual
abuse or stalking, gender identity/gender expression; and
WHEREAS, acts of housing discrimination and barriers to equal housing are unacceptable regarding a
common sense of decency and fairness; and
WHEREAS, federal and state laws, as well as city ordinance, affirm the right of every person to equal housing
opportunity; and
WHEREAS, fair housing is a positive community good; and
WHEREAS, economic stability and community health are improved by diversity and integration; and
WHEREAS, stable, integrated, and balanced residential patterns are threatened by discriminatory actions and
unlawful housing practices that result in segregation of residents and opportunities in our community; and
WHEREAS, the talents of non-profit organizations, housing providers, financial institutions, elected officials,
and others must be combined to promote and preserve fair housing and equal opportunity.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville recognizes
April 2020 as "Fair Housing Month" to establish the City of Janesville as an open and inclusive community
committed to fair housing and to promote and advocate for equal housing opportunities for all residents and
prospective residents of the City of Janesville.
