An ordinance amending licensing requirements and certain fees set forth in JGO
5.04.010, 5.14.050, 5.20.030(E)(3)(c) and (d),5.20.030(E)(3) and (4), 5.56.050 (B), 5.56.060
(B), 5.82.060(A) and (B),8.40.040(F), 8.40.050(E), 8.64.170 (C), 16.08.610(B), and 14.16.020
in the City of Janesville, with penalties for violations thereof as set forth respectively in
JGO 5.04.180, 5.06.470,5.14.110,5.20.040, 5.56.150,8.40.090, 16.08.210, and 14.48.050.
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 5.04.010 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is
hereby amended to read as follows:
A. Amusements (Sections 5.08.010-5.08.060, 5.28.010-5.28.050, 5.72.010-5.72.140)
1.
a. Amusement center license (Section 5.08.020 B.) $210 215 per
establishment 5 or more devices
b. $32 33 per device. Every Amusement Device requires
a separate license. Every owner and possessor of an
Amusement Device shall pay a $32 33 per device annual
license fee for the first 20 Amusement Devices per
premises, with a maximum annual aggregate per
device license fee of $640 660 per premises. The per device
annual license fee shall be paid by all owners and
possessors of Amusement Devices whether or not the
premises constitutes an Amusement Center, and shall be
paid in addition to the Amusement Center license fee, as
applicable.
c. Such fees shall not be apportioned, regardless of the date
on which such license may be issued.
5. Theaters $7-7- 80.00 per year
6. Pool and billiard halls, bowling centers (Sections 5.72.010-5.72.120):
b. Bowling centers, for each bowling lane, per year $22.00 25.00
7. Skating, roller and ice
a. Each roller skating hall $7-5-00 77.00 per year
b. Each ice skating rink or hall $75.00 77.00 per year
K. Fermented malt beverages (Chapter 5.06)
1. Class A retail license (Chapter 5.06) (See section 125.25(4)), per year
$230.00 $240.00
6. Late fees. Any Class A or Class B renewal application not received by the City
Clerk-Treasurer by April 15th will be subject to a late fee of$25.00 30.00 plus 10 percent of all
license fees. The minimum charge will be $25.00.
L. Food and drink (Section 5.40)
1. Hotels, restaurants, lunchrooms, lunch counters, cafeteria,
tavern, candy store, fountain, grocery stores, meat market,
butcher shops or any other place selling food or drink for
human consumption
a. New establishment $2-7 28.00 per year
b. Renewal $2410 28.00 per year
P. Direct sellers (Sections 5.68.010-5.68.120) $125 130 fora period up to one year
R. Taxicabs and taxicabs drivers

T. Auto salvage yard (sections 5.64.010-5.64.110) $210.00 220.00 per year
Fee prorated by months for portion of year before July 1st
SECTION II. Section 5.14.050 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is
hereby amended to read as follows:
A. The fee for a youth entertainment center license shall be $100.00 105.00.
SECTION III. Section 8.64.170 (C) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
C. The annual fee shall be $105.00 110.00 for the first vehicle, and $55.00 60.00
for each additional vehicle.
SECTION IV. Sections 5.20.030 (E)(3)(c) and 5.20.030 (E)(3)(d) of the Code of General
Ordinances of the City of Janesville are hereby amended to read as follows:
(c) Non-Motorized Food Vending Cart– Initial License Fee - $4-60:08 165.00. Each
owner or applicant shall pay an initial cart license fee of$160.00 165.00 per cart at the time of
original filing, which initial fee shall be pro-rated based on the month after July 1 in which the
initial application is filed. The initial application fee is non-refundable.
(d) Non-Motorized Food Vending Cart–Annual Renewal Fee - $1-6A88 165.00. An
annual renewal fee of$160.00 165.00 per cart thereafter shall be required and paid. The annual
renewal fee is non-refundable.
SECTION V. Sections 5.20.035(E)(3) and 5.20.035(E)(4) of the Code of General Ordinances of
the City of Janesville are hereby amended to read as follows:
(3) Truck—Initial license fee—$515.00 530.00. Each owner applicant shall pay an initial truck
license fee of $515.00 530.00 per truck at the time of original filing. The initial application fee is
non-refundable.
(4) Truck—Annual renewal fee—$260.00 270.00. An annual renewal fee of$260.00 270.00 per
truck thereafter shall be required and paid. The annual renewal fee is non-refundable.
SECTION VI. Section 5.56.050 (B) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
B. The application shall be accompanied by a license fee of eighty five -seven
dollars ($85 87.00). In addition, the application shall be accompanied by the
statement of a physician licensed as such by the State dated within ten days of
the application, certifying that the applicant is free of contagious, infectious, or
communicable diseases. Upon receipt of any such application, accompanied by
the bond or insurance required in this chapter, and presentation of the receipt
showing the payment of the prescribed fee, the City Clerk shall notify the City
Council of the application.
SECTION VII. Section 5.56.060 (B) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
A. The application shall be accompanied by a license fee of two-hundred ten fifteen
dollars ($210.00 215.00) if for a massage establishment license. Upon receipt of any
such application, accompanied by the bond or insurance required in this chapter and
presentation of the receipt showing the payment of the prescribed fee, the City Clerk
shall notify the City Council of the application..
SECTION VIII. Section 8.40.050 (E) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
D. Application for the nontransferable FIREWORKS STAND PERMIT shall be
accompanied with a non-refundable application FEE in the amount of Three
Hundred Twenty Thirty Dollars ($3-2.0 330.00), which fee shall be applied to
help defray the City's actual inspection and administrative review costs.
Section 8.40.040(F) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is hereby
amended to read as follows:
E. The fireworks display permit shall be nonrefundable, in the amount of$1-95-00
110.00 and shall not be waived.
SECTION IX. Section 5.82.060 (a) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
A. A license fee in the amount of $700.00 800.00 shall be paid for a new (original)
license at the time that the license is issued by the City Clerk-Treasurer.
Section 5.82.060(B) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is hereby
amended to read as follows:
B. The annual renewal license fee shall be $150.00 200.00 and shall be paid at the
time that the license is issued by the City Clerk-Treasurer.
SECTION X. Section 16.08.610 (B) of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville
is hereby amended to read as follows:
B. The annual fee for said license shall be $105.00 150.00 and shall run from July 1
to June 30. There shall be no proration of said fee for any shorter term.
SECTION XI. Section 14.16.020 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is
hereby amended to read as follows:
14.16.020 License--Fee--Council approval. Each applicant fora sign erector's license
shall, at the time the examination is given, file an application for such license accompanied by
an eighty-sevenninety dollar ($87.0090.00) fee with the city clerk-treasurer, who shall transmit
such application to the city council. The city council is authorized to grant a sign erector's
license to any qualified applicant. (Ord. 84 373 1(part), 1984).
SECTION X. This ordinance shall take effect on January 1, 2020.
