2019-1699 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2019 - 1699
A resolution proclaiming October 2019 as
"National Disability Employment Awareness Month" in the City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, the purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about
disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers
with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy
recognizes October 2019 as the 74th National Disability Employment Awareness Month with the
theme "Inclusion Drives Innovation"; and
WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was enacted to end disability-based
discrimination and to promote inclusion, full participation, economic self-sufficiency, and equality of
opportunity for all people with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, workplaces welcoming the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are a
critical part of our efforts to build an inclusive community and a more productive economy; and
WHEREAS, the Janesville community has made great strides to provide equal employment
opportunities and ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to contribute their
skills and talents to both the public and private sector; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville affirms its commitment as an equal employment opportunity
employer, and treats individuals from all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences with dignity and
respect;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville
recognizes October 2019 as "National Disability Employment Awareness Month", and encourages
residents of this City to participate in activities that reinforce the value persons with disabilities add to
our workplaces.
