2019-1673 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2019-1673
A resolution supporting the naming of a portion of Monterey Park "Anglers Park"
and a neighborhood park in the Emerald Estates subdivision "Sandstone Park".
WHEREAS, the Monterey Area River Restoration (MARR) is a popular fishing
destination; and
WHEREAS, the MARR is currently named Monterey Park; and
WHEREAS, it is desired to highlight the angling opportunities associated with the
MARR; and
WHEREAS, the proposed portion of Monterey Park to be renamed would be west of the
Center Avenue Bridge and east of the Wisconsin & Southern rail line; and
WHEREAS, funding for the development of the neighborhood park in the Emerald
Estates subdivision has been approved as part of the City of Janesville's 2019 Note
Issue; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated parkland currently does not have an official name; and
WHEREAS, neighborhood parks have historically been given a name associated with
an adjoining street; and
WHEREAS, both proposed names will become official only in accordance to Council
Policy Statement No. 94; after introduction, the proposals must be reviewed by the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and not acted on for ninety (90) days after
introduction.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of
Janesville, that the Janesville City Council do hereby rename a portion of Monterey
Park as Anglers Park and officially name the dedicated parkland located in the Emerald
Estates subdivision as Sandstone Park.
