RESOLUTION NO. 2004-107
A Resolution authorizing a supplemental appropriation to provide local matching funds for a Federal FIRE Act grant, for
Firefighter Safety, to install diesel exhaust extraction systems at the outlying fire stations and upgrade the firefighting turnout
gear.
WHEREAS, health and safety standards have identified that whole diesel exhaust is a cancer causing substance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville has received a Federal FIRE Act grant in the amount of$144,311 to install exhaust recovery
systems at the outlying stations, as well as to upgrade the firefighting gear; and
WHEREAS, the grant requires a local thirty percent (30%) match of$61,847; and
WHEREAS, the 2004 General Fund Fire Department Budget does not contain funds sufficient to pay the local matching
amount; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City to provide supplemental funding for such
firefighter safety equipment; and
WHEREAS, it is within the authorityofthe Common Council, pursuantto Section 65.90(5)(a), Wisconsin Statutes to authorize
and direct such supplemental appropriations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, pursuant to Section 65.90 (5)(a), Wisconsin Statutes, that the Common Council
of the City of Janesville hereby authorizes and directs that a supplemental appropriation in the amount of$61 ,847 be made from
the General Fund's Undesignated Fund Balance and placed into the 2004 General Fund Fire Department Budget for firefighter
safety equipment.
