2004-63RESOLUTION NO. 2004-63 Whereas, George D. Brunner is retiring from City of Janesville employment as Chief of Police after diligently serving the citizens of Janesvi[[e for forty and one half years; and, Whereas, during George D. Brunner's employment with the City of Janesville, he dedicated himself to service to the community, and provided steadfast leadership for the Janesvi[le Police Department; and, Whereas, George D. Brunner served the Janesville Police Department as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Captain, Bureau Commander, Commander and Chief of Police; and, Whereas, under Chief Brunner's leadership the Janesville Police Department implemented many new programs, including a Sensitive Crime Unit for Child Abuse Investigations, Truancy Abatement Program, Bikes for Kids Program, Special Operations Unit, School Resource Officers in Middle Schools, participation in Teacher Externship Program and Adopt-a-Class Program, Community Services Unit, Police Bicycle Patrol, Janesville Narcotics Enforcement Team, participation in State[ine Area Narcotics Team, Emergency Response Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, formation of Youth Violence Prevention Task Force, Police Department Honor Guard, National Night Out, Safe Schools Interagency Team, Wilson Elementary School Neighborhood Officer Program, and Project Safe Neighborhood; and, Whereas, Chief Brunner attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, 157th Session, and was named the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Executive of the Year for 1994; and, Whereas, the Janesville Police Department was accredited by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group in 2002 under Chief Brunner's leadership; and, Whereas, it is desired that such commendable service to the City of Janesville be properly recognized; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the people of the City of Janesville, through the City Council, do express their grateful appreciation for his forty and one half years of loyal public service.
