2018-1583 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2018 - 1583
A resolution proclaiming October 2018 as "Bullying Prevention Month"
in the City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, in the United States bullying has historically been viewed as a "rite of
passage"; and
WHEREAS, in reality bullying can leave long-lasting scars affecting one's self-esteem
and sense of self-worth for many years following; and
WHEREAS, in 2006 PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center initiated the first ever
"Bullying Prevention Week"; and
WHEREAS, this campaign has developed and grown exponentially into a month long
initiative filled with partnerships and events; and
WHEREAS, this nationwide initiative has shifted the view of bullying as being a "rite of
passage" to being a call of duty to encourage communities to participate in education
and raising awareness of this ongoing issue; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL at its regular
meeting assembled this 8th day of October, 2018 that the City of Janesville recognizes
October 2018 as "Bullying Prevention Month" in the City of Janesville.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we call upon the citizens of Janesville to
recognize and participate in the further discussion, education, and raising awareness for
the prevention of bullying within our community.
