A resolution Recognizing Coach Barry Alvarez.

WHEREAS, Barry Alvarez is Director of Athletics and Football Coach for the University
of Wisconsin - Madison; and
WHEREAS, Coach Alvarez will be in Janesville on June 16 to be the keynote speaker
at a banquet for St. John Vianney School and Parish; and
WHEREAS, Coach Alvarez is the winningest football coach in UW history, including
three Big Ten and Rose Bowl titles; and
WHEREAS, Coach Alvarez exemplifies what goodwill and positive community
involvement bring to the residents of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, it is desired that such commendable service and dedication to the sports
fans in Wisconsin and throughout this nation be properly recognized; and
WHEREAS, the contributions of Coach Alvarez are in the finest tradition of Wisconsin
sports, athletic participation and sportsmanship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of
Janesville, that all Janesville citizens are called upon to recognize Barry AIvarez for his
commitment to community involvement and his demonstrated leadership at the
University of Wisconsin; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council to proclaim June 16, 2004 as
"Barry Alvarez Day"
