2018-723 ORDINANCE NO. 2018 - 723
An Ordinance prohibiting animals on certain City property with exceptions and
penalties as set forth in J.G.O. 6.04.120, 12.44.100, and 12.60.460.
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 6.04.110 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Janesville is hereby amended to read as follows:
6.04.110 Pets prohibited in parks and public grounds when--Additional
regulations.
A. No person or persons being the owner or owners or having possession,
custody, or control of any dog, horse, cat, or other animal pet, shall permit the same to
be in any playground or school ground at any time, or in any public park from May 15th
to September 15th. This regulation applies whether the pet is running at large or is on a
leash, or otherwise under the control of any person.
B. This regulation is in addition to all the regulations relating to dogs. (Ord.
83-328 s. 1(part), 1983).
C. Exempt from the prohibitions in Section A are service animals that are
required to be accommodated by the Americans with Disabilities Act and law
enforcement doqs used in official police business.
SECTION II. Section 12.44.095 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Janesville is hereby created to read as follows:
12.44.095 Pets prohibited in City buildings A. No person may
possess or bring any pet or animal into or upon any City building at any time.
B. Exempt from the prohibitions in Section A are service animals that are
required to be accommodated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, and law
enforcement dogs used or animals being held for official police business.
SECTION III. Section 12.60.210 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Janesville is hereby amended to read as follows:
12.60.210 Pets prohibited.
A. No person or persons, being the owner or owners, or having possession,
custody or control of any dog or cat shall permit the same to be in any park or city golf
course from May 15 to September 15 each year, or in any playground or school ground
at any time. This regulation applies whether the pet is running at large or is on a leash,
or otherwise under the control of any person. This regulation is in addition to all other
regulations relating to dogs. Exempt from the prohibitions in this Section are service
animals that are required to be accommodated by the Americans with Disabilities Act
and law enforcement dogs used in official police business.
B. The riding or leading of beasts of burden upon public property, except
streets, that have not been specifically provided for such purpose, is prohibited.
C. Dogs and cats may be present, throughout the year but only during such
hours that the park is lawfully open to the public, in those specifically signed park "Pet
Exercise/Training Areas" which the Parks Director, from time to time, so designates with
Council approval. Dogs and cats permitted in such areas shall, at all times, be under
the effective control of the owner/possessor, but no leash is required.
