2018-1549 RESOLUTION NO. 2018-1549
A resolution proclaiming June 23, 2018 as "CAMDEN Playground Grand Re-
Opening and 25th Anniversary Celebration Day" in the City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, in 1990 the first meeting of the C.A.M.D.E.N. Foundation was held; and
WHEREAS, the C.A.M.D.E.N. Foundation stands for Community Accessibility Medium
Dealing with Exceptional Needs; and
WHEREAS, in 1993, CAMDEN Playground was completed and opened and at the time
was considered the largest and most accessible playground in the world; and
WHEREAS, CAMDEN Playground became a model for accessible playgrounds
throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the playground has been the centerpiece of the Janesville parks system
since opening; and
WHEREAS, the popularity of the playground led to normal wear and tear to the point
that re-construction needed to completed; and
WHEREAS, the C.A.M.D.E.N. Foundation Board of Directors decided in 2013 to begin
fundraising to replace the playground; and
WHEREAS, through gracious community support, grants, and in-kind donations,
CAMDEN Playground was re-built in 2016 and completed in 2017 with recycled plastic
lumber and poured in place rubber safety surfacing; and
WHEREAS, 2018 marks the 25th Anniversary of CAMDEN Playground; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is forever grateful for the efforts put forth by the
C.A.M.D.E.N. Foundation.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of
Janesville that the Janesville Common Council does hereby proclaim Saturday, June
23, 2018 as "CAMDEN Playground Grand Re-Opening and 25th Anniversary
Celebration Day" in the City of Janesville. We urge residents of Janesville to make time
on June 23, 2018 to visit the new playground and acknowledge the efforts of the
C.A.M.D.E.N. Foundation.
