2018-1551 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2018 - 1551
A resolution proclaiming the summer of 2018 as "Summer of Get Fit 608" in the
City of Janesville.
WHEREAS, according to Rock County, 67% of Rock County residents are overweight
and 37% are obese; and
WHEREAS, 87% of Rock County residents have adequate access to locations for
physical activity; and
WHEREAS, increased physical activity has been linked with lower risk of cardiovascular
disease, lower risk of diabetes, improved mental health, and overall well-being; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville, in conjunction with SSM Health and the National
Fitness Campaign, opened an outdoor fitness court within the downtown that will be
available and free year-round for all residents; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is partnering with Rock County and SSM Health to
sponsor a health initiative titled "#Fit608" to help connect residents of Janesville and
Rock County with the resources to become more active and healthier; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of
Janesville recognizes the summer of 2018 as "Summer of Get Fit 608", and encourages
residents of this City to participate and work towards a healthier and longer life.
