2018-1547 RESOLUTION NO. 2018-1547
A resolution authorizing the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) to install
"Downtown Janesville" signs along Interstate 39/90.
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has a statewide policy to allow
supplemental signage to direct motorists on freeways and expressways to a community's downtown
area, and;
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville, in conjunction with the Janesville Area Convention and Visitors
Bureau and Downtown Janesville, Inc., will implement a signage program to direct travelers unfamiliar
with the Janesville to major destinations in the City, including the Downtown Janesville area, and;
WHEREAS, The Common Council of the City of Janesville hereby request to the Wisconsin
Department of Transportation, the installation of "Downtown Janesville" signs along northbound
Interstate 39/90 at E. Racine Street and along southbound Interstate 39/90 at STH 26.
WHEREAS, in this action the City of Janesville Common Council is establishing placement of signage
on Exit 175 (E. Racine Street) as the downtown access from northbound Interstate 39/90 and Exit
171 (STH 26) as the downtown access from southbound Interstate 39/90, where said placement of
signage shall remain for a period of no less than ten years, and;
WHEREAS, in this action the City of Janesville Common Council agrees to install and maintain
confirmation signs suitable to WisDOT on the selected access routes, agrees to comply with the
Community "Downtown" Signing policy, and accepts responsibility for all costs associated with
signing for the community downtown under the Community "Downtown" Signing policy.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville, Rock
County, Wisconsin, that WisDOT is hereby authorized to install "Downtown Janesville" signs along
northbound Interstate 39/90 at E. Racine Street and along southbound Interstate 39/90 at STH 26.
