2018-1516 Resolution No. 2018-1516 A resolution proclaiming April 15-21, 2018 as "Volunteer Recognition Week"in the City of Janesville WHEREAS, volunteerism embodies a spirit of giving and spirit of growth; and WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week was first proclaimed by President Nixon in 1974 and has been recognized annually in mid- to late-April; and WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week is a time to recognize the efforts of volunteers, and emphasize the benefits of volunteerism, both for the volunteer and the greater communities they serve. WHEREAS, the City of Janesville estimates over 600 volunteers help the City function throughout the year; and WHEREAS, volunteers provide an invaluable contribution to the Janesville community by lending their time, talent and support to improve the City in countless ways; and WHEREAS, City of Janesville volunteers include council and committee members, "Friends" groups, neighborhood group members, Senior Center volunteers, recreation program volunteers, and many more; and WHEREAS, volunteers contribute to the well-being of fellow residents, visitors and the welfare of all our citizens by giving their time and energy without desire of recognition, compensation or personal gain, accepting an ever-increasing and important role as our community strives to meet the needs of a changing demographic. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville recognizes the week of April 15-21, 2018 as "Volunteer Recognition Week" in the City of Janesville for the purpose of demonstrating the City's appreciation for the efforts of volunteers who serve the City of Janesville, and encouraging the residents of this City to become more knowledgeable about the importance of volunteers and their role in the community.
