2017-1443 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2017-1443 A resolution in commendation of the Janesville Fire Department for their assistance during the search and rescue efforts at the Cambria, Wisconsin corn milling plant explosion. WHEREAS, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, a corn milling plant exploded in Cambria, Wisconsin resulting in mass devastation to the structure; and WHEREAS, shortly after the explosion, one person was reported dead, two missing, and many more injured; and WHEREAS, the incident required mutual aid from fire departments across Wisconsin; and WHEREAS, on June 1, 2017, Wisconsin Task Force One (WI-TF1) was activated to assist with the incident, specifically search operations, on-scene communications, safety operations, and medical assistance with on-scene personnel; and WHEREAS, nine members of the Janesville Fire Department serve on Wisconsin Task Force One (WI-TF1), including: Captain Ryan Murphy - Safety Manager; Captain John McManus - Communications Manager; Lieutenant Robert Gabbey - Haz-Mat Operations; Lieutenant Hank Lewandowski - Haz- Mat Operations; Lieutenant Josh Uecker - Tech Rescue Operations; Firefighter Richard Lohmar - Tech Rescue Operations; Firefighter Brian Barnish - Rescue Specialist; Firefighter Pete Mory - Paramedic specialist; and Firefighter Zach Acker - Rescue Specialist; and WHEREAS, Wisconsin Task Force One (WI-TF1) encountered extensive rescue efforts at the scene, including a double leg field amputation as a result of the explosion; and WHEREAS, Wisconsin Task Force One (WI-TF1) was activated for 30 hours, finally returning late on June 2, 2017; and WHEREAS, ultimately, four people died and ten people were injured by the explosion; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville to recognize the Janesville Fire Department for their participation in Wisconsin Task Force One (WI-TF1) and assistance during the search and rescue efforts at the Cambria, Wisconsin corn milling plant explosion.
