2017-1434 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2017-1434
A resolution in commendation of the Janesville Police Department, Rock County
Sheriff's Office, other law enforcement agencies, and community partners for
their high level of cooperation and professionalism during the Joseph A.
Jakubowski manhunt and apprehension.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, Joseph A. Jakubowski allegedly burglarized a local gun
store and stole several guns; and
WHEREAS, prior to the alleged burglary, Mr. Jakubowski had written a 161-page manifesto
expressing his anti-government and anti-religious beliefs and sent the manifesto to President
Trump; and
WHEREAS, the nature of Mr. Jakubowski's alleged crimes and behavior led law enforcement to
believe Mr. Jakubowski intended to commit an act of violence and therefore made his capture of
national interest; and
WHEREAS, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies including over 150 officers
worked the case around the clock; and
WHEREAS, community partners and the Janesville community at-large supported law
enforcement throughout the investigation; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, April 14, 2017, Mr. Jakubowski was apprehended without incident in
Vernon County, Wisconsin;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville to
recognize the Janesville Police Department, Rock County Sheriff's Office, other law
enforcement agencies, and community partners for demonstrating a high level of cooperation
and professionalism during the Joseph A. Jakubowski manhunt and apprehension; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville that the
Janesville community thanks all of the agencies and organizations who responded quickly and
worked tirelessly to bring safe closure to this situation.
