2017-1390 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2017 - 1390
A resolution recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Rock Trail Coalition
WHEREAS, the Rock Trail Coalition helped the City of Janesville develop the trail
system in place today through public support and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the Rock Trail Coalition has committed thousands of hours of volunteer
work to develop and maintain the trail system; and
WHEREAS, the Rock Trail Coalition plows the Peace Trail from Tripp Road through
Monterey Park each winter, making this five-mile stretch available for cyclists, runners,
walkers, and dog walkers throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the Rock Trail Coalition has conducted many runs, walks, and bike tour
fundraisers with all funds designated to development and presentation of the trail
system; and
WHEREAS the Rock Trail Coalition partners with several other organizations such as
the Ice Age Trail Alliance, the Janesville Velo Club, the Green-Rock Audubon Society,
the Friends of Rockport Park, and the Friends of Riverside Park to support and
encourage outdoor recreational activity for the citizens of Janesville; and
WHEREAS, Rock Trail Coalition has led efforts to clear invasive plants and preserve
prairies along Janesville's Peace Trail; and
WHEREAS, Rock Trail Coalition works with several municipalities to connect
communities with off-road trails including Janesville, Beloit, Milton, and Rock County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Janesville
recognizes the 25th anniversary of the Rock Trail Coalition; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that thanks and appreciation are extended to all
community members who have volunteered for the Rock Trail Coalition to further realize
our shared success.
