2016-1363 RESOLUTION NO. 2016 -1363
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE
THE APPLICATION TO THE COUNTY OF ROCK, WISCONSIN,
FOR AN EXEMPTION FROM THE LIBRARY TAX LEVY
WHEREAS, the Rock County Board of Supervisors, pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes
43.64, has adopted a county -wide library service plan; and
WHEREAS, such service plan provides for the County to levy a tax to fund such service; and
WHEREAS, the County had appropriated the Arrowhead Library System's funding of
$1,243,992 for 2016; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes 43.64(2), any city, town, or village in a
county levying a tax for a county library under subs. (b) and (b)1. shall, upon written application to the
county board of the county, be exempted from the tax levy, if the city, town, or village making the
application appropriates and expends for a library fund during the year for which the tax levy is made
a sum at least equal to the sum which it would have to pay toward the county tax levy in the prior
year; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville will expend for a library fund a sum at least equal to the sum
it would have to pay toward the prior year's county tax levy and thus qualified for such exemption;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville that
the City Manager be and hereby is directed to make the application to the County of Rock, Wisconsin,
for any exemption from the library tax levy.
