2016-1347 RESOLUTION NO. 2016 -1347
A resolution recognizing and supporting the efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics
during Fire Prevention Week; October 9 -15, 2016
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living
and visiting Janesville; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern; and fire departments in the United States responded
to more than 369,000 home fires in 2013, resulting in the loss of 2,755 lives; and
WHEREAS, three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke
alarms; and
WHEREAS, City of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of
fire and fire injuries through prevention and public education; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Don't Wait — Check the Date! Replace Smoke
Alarms Every 10 Years" effectively serves to remind us that we need working smoke alarms to give us
the time to exit safely during a fire.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that
October 9 -15, 2016 is to be observed as Fire Prevention Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that all Janesville citizens are called upon
