2016-1355 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2016 -1355
A resolution recognizing October 15, 2016 as "Blind Americans Equality Day" and
"White Cane Safety Day" in the City of Janesville, WI.
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has designated October 15, 2016 as "Blind
Americans Equality Day "; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Wisconsin has designated October 15, 2016 as
"White Cane Safety Day "; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of these designations is to recognize that those who are blind or
visually impaired have the same rights and responsibilities as other citizens, to travel, work,
raise families, and pursue their various interests; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is now, and has been the home of the Wisconsin School for
the Blind and Visually Impaired since 1949, whose graduates continue to contribute the quality
of life to our fair City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is justifiably proud of its blind citizens, who contribute greatly
to the overall quality of life in our area; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL at its regular meeting
assembled this 10 day of October, 2016 that the City of Janesville recognizes October 15,
2016 as "Blind Americans Equality Day" and "White Cane Safety Day" in the City of Janesville,
WI.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we call upon the citizens of Janesville to recognize
the many contributions that those who are blind or visually impaired continue to make to our
community.
