2016-652 ORDINANCE NO. 2016 -652
An ordinance amending Chapter 10.28 of the Code of General Ordinances to bring City
Ordinances in line with current State Statutes regarding U -Turns at signalized intersections, with
penalties for violations thereof as set forth in JGO 10.28.030.
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 10.28.010 A. of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is hereby
amended as follows:
10.28.010 Certain U -Turns -- Left and Right Turns -- Prohibited.
A. The operator of a vehicle may not back the vehicle at an intersection
controlled by an official traffic control device for the purpose of making a U -turn and shall not turn
his the vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon a highway at any of the following
places:
1. At any intersection at which traffic is being controlled by traffic control
sisals -or by a traffic officer unless instructed by the officer to make a U -turn;
2. In mid -block on any street in a business district;
3. In mid -block on any through highway in a residence district;
4. On any one -way street;
5. At any of the following intersections:
u. High and Milwaukcc Streets,
b. Academy and West Milwaukee Streets,
c. Wisconsin and East Mil vaukcc Strccts,
d. St. Lawrence Avcnuc and South Main Street,
c. North Jackson and Wcst Wall Strccts,
f. South Jackson and Dodge Strccts,
g. South Rivcr and Dodge Streets,
h. North Parker Drive and East Wall Street,
i. East Wall and North Main Streets,
j. Locust and East Milwaukee Strcets,
k. Atwood Avcnuc and East Milwaukcc Street,
1. Wcst Court, Chcrry and High Strccts,
m. West Wall and North Franklin Strccts,
n. South Franklin and Dodge Streets,
5. At any place where signs prohibiting a U -turn have been erected by the
municipality.
6. At any place where a U -Turn cannot be made safely or without
interfering with other traffic.
6 7. At any one of the following median openings:
a. In the 3000 block of Milton Avenue located approximately
665 feet south of the centerline of U.S. Highway 14.
b. In the 3300 block of Milton Avenue located approximately
575 feet north of the centerline of U.S. Highway 14.
c. In the 2000 block of U.S. Highway 14 located approximately
545 feet west of Milton Avenue.
