2004-41RESOLUTION NO. 2004-041 A resolution Recognizing Workers Memorial Day (File Resolution No. 2004-041) WHEREAS, April 28, 2004 is Worker's Memorial Day, a day to remember and honor workers who have died from job injuries and illnesses and those who have been injured in work-related activities; and WHEREAS, April 28, 2004 is also the 34th anniversary of the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; and WHEREAS, Every year tens of thousand of American workers are killed by workplace injuries and occupational disease; and WHEREAS, All employers and their employees should renew their effort to seek safe work environments, protections, better standards & enforcement and fair & just compensation; and WHEREAS, On October 30, 2003 Mr. Douglas A. Mellom lost his life after an industrial accident at General Motors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of Janesville, on the 26th of April, that all Janesville citizens are called upon to rededicate themselves to improving safety and health in every American workplace; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council to hereby proclaim April 28, 2004 as Workers Memorial Day in the City of Janesville.
