2016-1327 RESOLUTION NO. 2016 — 1327
Whereas, Duane Brewer is retiring from City of Janesville employment after having
diligently served the people of the City of Janesville and the community for more than seventeen
years; retiring as the JATV Media Services Director; and
Whereas, during Duane's employment with the City of Janesville, he provided
exemplary professional service and demonstrated conscientious devotion to the duties of his
position, which he performed with skill and ability, sincerity, honesty, and dedication; and
Whereas, Duane began his employment with the City of Janesville as a Production
Manager; and
Whereas, Duane has trained many volunteers and production assistants over the years,
several of whom filmed JATV productions while others were able to make video production a
career in other locations; and
Whereas, Duane has been an avid supporter of the arts, filming events such as the
Docs' who Rock, Youth Battle of the Bands, the Arts Live Show, Rock the School House, the
Craig High School Talent Show, and performances by the Beloit- Janesville Symphony
Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Board of the Beloit- Janesville Symphony
Orchestra and producer of the award - winning '60 Years of the Beloit- Janesville Symphony
Orchestra and has helped promote local interest by producing videos showcasing the merits of
special projects such as the work being done on the Oakhill Cemetery Chapel; and
Whereas, Duane has produced many programs over the years showcasing the various
City services available to the citizens of Janesville, including Park Place Views, a video
demonstrating the new automated garbage collection vehicles, and the Janesville City of Parks
video. Duane has worked with various departments over the years to create project specific
videos, one of which was a Highway Cable Release training video done in 2012 with the
Janesville Fire Department, the Rock County Highway Department, and the Wisconsin State
Patrol. This video is still being used today by other agencies, including the Minnesota
Department of Transportation and the Calgary, Alberta Fire Department, as a training
document; and
Whereas, Duane has produced over 200 award - winning programs over the years, the
most of any community access station producer in Wisconsin. These award - winning programs
include 26 Awards of Excellence Videos, the highest award given out by the Wisconsin
Community Media Association, as well as a Telly Award in 2014, which honors the very best in
film and video production; and
Whereas, Duane has prepared and served the best homemade pancakes to the staff of
JATV and the Hedberg Public Library on an annual basis, which will be sorely missed; and
Whereas, it is desired that such commendable service to the City of Janesville be
properly recognized;
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the people of the City of Janesville, through the
City Council, do express their grateful appreciation to Duane Brewer for his more than
seventeen years of loyal public service.
