A Resolution providing that the bridge across the Rock River at South Crosby and
Willard Avenues shall be named the PFC Leslie A. Bellrichard Bridge. (File
Resolution No. 2004-009)
WHEREAS, PFC Leslie Allen Bellrichard was born in Janesville on December 4, 1941; and
WHEREAS, PFC Bellrichard was a member of the United States Army and served in the
Vietnam War as a fire team leader with Company C, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry; and
WHEREAS, PFC Bellrichard gave his life in the Kontum Province, Republic of Vietnam on
May 20, 1967 while shielding his fellow soldiers from a grenade blast; and
WHEREAS, PFC Bellrichard's acts kept with the highest traditions of the military and reflect
great credit upon himself and the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, PFC Bellrichard was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his
"Conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the
call of duty."
NOW, THEREFORE, LET BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of
Janesville, on the 26th day of January, provide that the bridge across the Rock River at
South Crosby and Willard Avenues shall be named the PFC Leslie A. Bellrichard Bridge.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council that all Janesville citizens are
called upon to honor the courage PFC Bellrichard displayed in serving our country and
saving the lives of fellow soldiers.
