A Resolution in support of Alliant Energy's application for expansion of the
Riverside Energy Center
WHEREAS, Alliant Energy announced plans in November 2014 for the expansion of the
Riverside Energy Center located between the City of Beloit and the City of Janesville;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed expansion of the Riverside Energy Center includes a
combined cycle, natural gas - fueled electricity generation and would replace several
older, less efficient generating units in Wisconsin slated for retirement; and,
WHEREAS, the expansion of the Riverside Energy Center would create 650 megawatts
of electricity, powering 500,000 homes; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of the Riverside Energy Center will have positive
environmental impacts as electricity generation with natural gas is highly efficient and
environmentally friendly as natural gas has limited emissions; and
WHEREAS, access to reliable, flexible, around - the -clock power is important for the
future growth and economic development goals of Janesville, Beloit and Rock County;
and
WHEREAS, the Public Services Commission of Wisconsin is currently reviewing Alliant
Energies application for approval of the expansion of the Riverside Energy Center and
is seeking public input regarding the application; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville hereby find that the approval
of the expansion of the Riverside Energy Center, to be in the best interest and of benefit
to the City, its citizens, residents, taxpayers, and the overall community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the City of
Janesville does hereby support the approval of the expansion of the Riverside Energy
Center and that support shall be submitted to the Public Service Commission of
Wisconsin.
