A Resolution Adopting a City Flag
WHEREAS, many of the major cities of the United States have adopted official city flags for
display at city facilities and civic functions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville, Wisconsin desires to adopt an official city flag; and
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville partnered with the School District of Janesville to administer
a city flag design contest among students and staff of Janesville schools; and
WHEREAS, approximately 350 flag design entries were received, and narrowed to twelve
finalists by a panel of City of Janesville and School District staff; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council and School Board convened on March 9, 2015 to select the
flag design that is most acceptable and appropriate for an official city flag to identify, unify and inspire
the citizens of Janesville; and
WHEREAS, the selected flag design was submitted by Maggie Gorman, Senior at Craig High
School; and
WHEREAS, the flag design proposed for adoption has been modified for consistency with the
City of Janesville's unique identity and brand.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville that
said City Council hereby adopts the proposed design as the official City of Janesville flag, and further
authorizes the City Manager and /or his designee to purchase flags to be flown at city facilities and
events.
