2015-1162 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2015 -1162 A resolution recognizing Tim Cullen for his years of service to the community, City of Janesville, and State of Wisconsin WHEREAS, Tim Cullen was born in Janesville on February 25, 1944; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen graduated from Janesville High School in 1962; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater in 1966; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen served in the United States Army Reserve; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen served on the Janesville City Council from 1970 to 1971; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen was elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1974 and reelected in 1978, 1982, 1986, and 2010; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen served as senate majority leader from 1982 to 1986; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen was appointed by Governor Tommy G. Thompson and confirmed by the Wisconsin senate to serve as secretary of Health and Social Services from 1987 to 1988; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen was senior vice president of Blue Cross /Blue Shield of Wisconsin from 1988 to 2007; and WHEREAS, upon retiring from Blue Cross /Blue Shield of Wisconsin, Tim Cullen was elected to and served on the Janesville Public School Board from 2007 to 2010; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen has served or continues to serve on the Les Aspin School of Government Board of Visitors, the Board of Everyone Cooperating to Help Others (ECHO), the Janesville Teacher Diversity Board, the Janesville YMCA Board, and the Big Brothers Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen continues to provide Janesville high school students a unique opportunity to better understand their community through the Tim Cullen Government Internship Program; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen has earned his reputation for diplomacy and bipartisanship; and WHEREAS, Tim Cullen retired from public service on January 4, 2015; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that the City of Janesville commends the devoted public service that Tim Cullen has contributed to the community, City of Janesville, and State of Wisconsin.
