2000-74RESOLUTION NO. 2000-74
A resolution authorizing the City Manager to lease land from Alliant Energy for the purpose of using the
property for a grass parking lot.
WHEREAS, Alliant Energy is the owner of land located in the 500 block of North Main Street; and
WHEREAS, this property has been identified in the Janesville Riverfront Strategy as appropriate for overflow
parking; and
WHEREAS, Alliant Energy has agreed to develop the site into a "green" parking lot as well as beautify the site
with landscaping and prairie grasses at their cost and then lease portions of the property to the City; and
WHEREAS, the City, after the completion of the planned improvements, has agreed to maintain the property;
and
WHEREAS, on 7 August 2000, the Plan Commission of the City of Janesville reviewed the attached plan for
development of the property for a "green" parking lot and found that use and the lease of the property by the
City to each be consistent with City plans, however, they did not comment on the financial aspects of this
transaction; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville does hereby find that the construction of the
proposed "green" parking lot and the lease of the property from Alliant Energy to be in the best interest and
benefit to the citizens of the City of Janesville and the community.
NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that
they hereby approve and authorize the City Manager to execute and enter into on behalf of the City of Janesville
the attached lease with Alliant Energy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is hereby authorized to negotiate and execute such
lease, documents, papers, agreements and forms and to take whatever other actions and to make whatever minor
changes to the lease and such other documents, papers, agreements and forms as the City Manager may, from
time to time, find necessary, desirable, and/or beneficial to effectuate the lease and/or the intent of this
resolution on the City's behalf.
