2014-1142 RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -1142
A Resolution recognizing and supporting the efforts of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics during
Fire Prevention Week; October 5 -11, 2014
WHEREAS, the City of Janesville is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living and
visiting Janesville; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern; and fire departments in the United States responded to
365,000 home fires in 2012, resulting in the loss of 2,300 lives; and
WHEREAS, three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without working smoke alarms;
and
WHEREAS, City of Janesville Firefighters and Paramedics are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of fire
and fire injuries through prevention and public education; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every
Month!" effectively serves to remind us that we need working smoke alarms to give us the time to exit safely
during a fire.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville that October 5-
11, 2014 is to be observed as Fire Prevention Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that all Janesville citizens are called upon to test
their smoke alarms at least every month, and to support the public safety efforts of Janesville Firefighters and
Paramedics who work to protect their fellow citizens and community.
