2014-1133 FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -1133 A resolution recognizing September 9, 2014 as the 10th anniversary of the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) WHEREAS, in 1997, Janesville was presented with a rare, generous, and timely proposal to lease the former Janesville High School auditorium and music wing from Stonehouse Development for use as a community performing arts center; and WHEREAS, in April of 2003, a $1 million donor came forward to help establish a community performing arts center contingent on having the City of Janesville match the gift; and WHEREAS, on June 9, 2003, the Janesville City Council voted to match the anonymous donor's $1 million gift with a $1 million donation from the citizens of Janesville; and WHEREAS, the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) opened in September 2004 with a mission to serve as the primary performing arts and cultural resource center for the greater Janesville area and accommodate a diverse mix of performances by non - profit user groups to enhance the quality of life for all; and WHEREAS, each year, the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) serves over 30,000 local community members and nearly 5,000 students through school programming; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that the City of Janesville recognizes September 9, 2014 as the 10th anniversary of the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) and commends Executive Director Elizabeth Horvath, her staff, and volunteers for their diligent hard work to make the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) what it is today, the premier performing arts and entertainment center for Janesville and the greater Rock County area.
