2014-1081 Action on a proposed resolution in commendation of Thomas R. Presny's service to the City of
Janesville
RESOLUTION NO. 2014 -1081
Whereas, Thomas R. Presny is retiring from City of Janesville employment after
having diligently served the people of the City of Janesville and the community for nearly thirty
years; retiring as Parks Director with the City of Janesville Leisure Services Department; and
Whereas, during Tom's tenure the Parks Division's commitment to outdoor
recreation was evident through the renovation of 35 of Janesville's 44 playgrounds and
associated parks;
Whereas, Tom demonstrated his commitment to community service and citizen
engagement by working with 28 community groups and organizations to better Janesville's park
system;
Whereas, conserving natural resources was a guiding principle of Tom's career,
having increased the Janesville Greenbelt System from 475 acres to 805 acres;
Whereas, Tom was instrumental in acquiring the 90 acre Northeast Regional
Park and facilitating the crown jewel of Janesville's park system, our 30 mile bicycle trail
network;
Whereas, Janesville's "Wisconsin's Park Place" motto was truly exhibited by
Tom, as he took part in growing the park system from 54 parks to 66 parks, while increasing our
parkland from 1,575 acres to 2,595 acres; and
Whereas, during Tom Presny's employment with the City of Janesville, he
provided exemplary professional service and demonstrated conscientious devotion to the duties
of his position, which he performed with skill and ability, sincerity, honesty, and dedication; and
Whereas, it is desired that such commendable service to the City of Janesville
be properly recognized;
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that the people of the City of Janesville,
through the City Council, do express their grateful appreciation to Thomas R. Presny for his
nearly 30 years of loyal public service.
