A Resolution Requesting the Naming of the New Playground and Pavilion in Rockport Park
WHEREAS, Rockport Park is 251.47 acres of park and open space located on the West Side of
Janesville; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes the efforts of the Peace Committee and volunteers to plan and
build the new playground area at Rockport Park; and
WHEREAS, the overall concept of the playground area is to promote peace and unity in the
community by giving children a chance to learn about cultural diversity as they play; and
WHEREAS, the playground site includes unique features such as a two-story Native American
teepee with reproduced Peace paintings inside by Gary Candy, long houses, a Peace Pole and plaza;
and
p WHEREAS, the Administration is reaues~ng permission to name the new playground site

Peac~Y0iS~ayground and the new pavilion Peac~avilion; and
WHEREAS, the Janesville City Council under authority of State Statute 62.11 (5) has the
authority to name public parks.
