A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE SOUTH WEST AREA PLAN AS AN ELEMENT OF THE
JANESVILLE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville recognizes the benefits to be derived from
comprehensive planning including: guiding and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted and harmonious
development of the municipality which will, in accordance with existing and future needs, best promote
public health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity or the general welfare, as well as efficiency
and economy in the process of development; and
WHEREAS, the City Plan Commission has previously adopted other elements of the Comprehensive Plan
as desirable guides for the development of Janesville, many of which recommend that additional plan
elements be prepared that provide further details for certain areas of the City; and
WHEREAS, the south and west sides of the City have been identified as areas in need of and that would
benefit greatly from more detailed planning to accommodate the continued growth of that area; and
WHEREAS, the South West Area Plan has been prepared as a guide for growth and development on the
south and west sides of Janesville; and
WHEREAS, the South West Area Plan has been prepared with the benefit of incorporation of public
comment following periodic and timely public informational meetings and a public hearing before the Plan
Commission on 1 April 2002; and
WHEREAS, the South West Area Plan will provide a framework for the Common Council to make land
use, zoning and transportation decisions and help create and accommodate vibrant, functional and
sustainable development that will serve to satisfy and protect the needs of the citizens of Janesville.
WHEREAS, on 1 April 2002, the City Plan Commission adopted the South West Area Plan as an element
of the City's Comprehensive Plan and recommended that the Common Council accept the plan; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN, that said Council hereby accepts the Janesville South West Area Plan
document dated 15 March 2002 as a component of the City's Comprehensive Plan.
