A resolution authorizing the City's participation and funding of bicycle/pedestrian facilities serving
and linking to the southwest side of the City.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville recognizes the benefits of extending the City
of Janesville's bicycle/pedestrian transportation facilities to interconnect all sectors of the community with
major destination points; and
WHEREAS, the planned segments for the current WisDOT submittal include: development ora
southwest side trail connector from the southern portion of Rockport Park along the Rock River to the
Loch Lomond residential area.
WHEREAS, the proposed trail segments and street connections are part of a larger, city-wide
transportation system intended to provide a safe, efficient means for bicyclists and pedestrians to travel to
work, home or for recreation purposes; and
WHEREAS, federal/state funds for project construction and design engineering have been made
available to the city on an 80 pement non-local, 20 percent local basis; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated construction cost of the bicycle/pedestrian is $1,041,000 with 80% or
$832,800 being funded through federal/state sources and the remaining 20%, or $208,200, being funded
through local sources; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that this public project and funding are in the best interest of the
city and benefit to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JANESVILLE that the City Manager be authorized to execute project agreements with the Wisconsin
Department of Transportation and take any other such actions as may be necessary to implement the
planned extensions to the City's bikeway/pedestrian route network; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE
that it intends to fund its share of the proposed project.
