2012-932 A resolution recognizing the Rock Aqua Jays for their Independence Day on the Rock event in
celebration of the Fourth of July. (2012 -932)
WHEREAS, each year the United States of America celebrates Independence Day to commemorate the adoption of
the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 and declaration of our nation's independence from the Kingdom of
Great Britain; and
WHEREAS, the Janesville community is fortunate to have two major community events planned each year to
celebrate Independence Day;
WHEREAS, three years ago the Rock Aqua Jays began organizing and sponsoring the Independence Day on the
Rock event at Traxler Park for the community; and
WHEREAS, Independence Day on the Rock includes many free events for area families, including music, inflatable
jump machines, an Idol music contest, an 'anything that floats' race on the river and other entertainment; and
WHEREAS, in the early evening the Rock Aqua Jays perform their water ski show free of charge for attendees,
which is then followed by fireworks for the community; and
WHEREAS, the estimated attendance at this free community event is approximately 8,000; and
WHEREAS, organizing and sponsoring an event of this magnitude takes tireless energy and significant foresight;
and
WHEREAS, the Rock Aqua Jays have a long history of working cooperatively with the City of Janesville to ensure
public safety is a priority when organizing logistics for parking and fireworks;
WHEREAS, Independence Day on the Rock is a wonderful community event that promotes community unity and
patriotism.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of Janesville, on the 24 day
of September 2012 that all Janesville residents recognize the contributions the Rock Aqua Jays have made to our
community through their organization and sponsorship of the Independence Day on the Rock community event.
