WHEREAS, Leonard A. Carlson is retiring from City of Janesville employment after having
diligently served the people of the City of Janesville and the community for thirty-one and one-half
years, retiring as Engineering Director with the Engineering Department; and
WHEREAS, during Leonard A. Carlson's employment with the City of Janesvilie, he worked
very hard and accomplished tremendous amounts of work, while always exhibiting a high level of
commitment and dedication to the City of Janesville; and
WHEREAS, during Len's tenure with the City, he oversaw the design and construction of very
high quality public improvements, including 131 miles of streets, 126 miles of sanitary sewers, more
than 148 miles of water mains, and 66 miles of storm sewers. He also supervised the design and
construction of many major projects, including the Five Points Intersection, water and sewer service
to the Mole & Sadler's Subdivision, construction of the Crosby-Willard Bridge, the Janesville Ice
Arena, and Transit facility addition. He significantly improved the productivity of the Engineering
Department, overseeing the integration of the Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) system
and the computer evaluation and prioritization of street reconstruction and resurfacing; and,
WHEREAS, it is desired that such commendable service to the City of Janesville be properly
recognized;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TI- RESOLVED that the people of the City of Janesville, through the
City Council, do express their grateful appreciation to Leonard A. Carlson for his thirty-one and one-
half years of loyal public service.
