WHEREAS, October is recognized as Fire Prevention month, a time when
Firefighters and Paramedics make a concerted effort to get out in their communities to
teach fire safety; and
WHEREAS, we have recently witnessed their heroic efforts in New York City
and at the Pentagon putting themselves in harms way as our guardians of life and
property; and
WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties,
responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their Firefighters and Paramedics, as those
members, of the Fire Departments, recognize their duty to serve the people of their
communities; and
WHEREAS, the Janesville City Council desires to honor the valor, service and
dedication of the Firefighters and Paramedics that serve the City of Janesville.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Janesville on the 22nd of October 2001, that the month of October is observed as Fire
Prevention Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council that all Janesville citizens
are called upon to especially honor and show our appreciation for the Firefighters and
Paramedics of the City of Janesville by deed, remark and attitude in honor of these men
and women who work to protect their fellow citizens and community.
