A Resolution Urging the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation to Oppose
any Legislation Intended to Stop the Current "Freeze" of, or to Increase the Corporate
Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Standards
WHEREAS, the United States Congress is expected to consider legislation aimed at increasing the
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for light trucks and sport utility vehicles
produced in the United States; and
WHERAS, increases in the CAFE standards would unfairly impact U.S. manufacturers which
dominate the sales of light trucks and sport utility vehicles; and
WHEREAS, increases in the CAFE standards would negatively impact Janesville's economy which
depends to a large degree upon the production of sport utility vehicles; and
WHEREAS, on-going technological advances have resulted in and will continue to result in
improvements in fuel economy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville hereby
urges the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation to oppose any legislation, amendments to legislation,
and/or resolutions that would eliminate the current freeze on CAFE standards or have the effect of
increasing the CAFE standards.
