An Ordinance amending Chapter 8.60 Nuisances to prohibit graffiti and allow abatement
by the City at the property owner's expense, with a penalty for violations thereof as set
forth in Janesville General Ordinance Chapter 8.60. (File Ordinance 2000-40)
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 8.60.130 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of Janesville is hereby added to
read as follows:
"Section 8.60.t30 Graffiti. The existence of graffiti on any real property within the city,
without express permission of the owner, is declared to be a public nuisance as it affects public
health, safety and welfare. Graffiti shall be removed by the property owner or by the City at the
property owner's expense. The Code Administration Director shall order graffiti removed by the
property owner within a time certain. Upon the failure of the property owner to comply with the
order issued by the department, the Director may cause the graffiti to be removed. A statement
of the costs shall be filed with the City Clerk/Treasurer, and .any and all costs thereof shall be
charged against the property, shall be a lien upon the real estate, and shall be assessed and
collected as a special tax"
